TO MARK THE 120 YEARS SINCE ITS CREATION, THIS KNIFE IS A REPLICA OF THE ONE DESIGNED BY OPINEL'S ANCESTER JOSEPH OPINEL IN 1890.
The blade is carbon steel, the handle cherry and the "Crowned Hand" trademark lodged in 1909 is not yet seen on the blade. Joseph Opinel simply stamped the name Opinel preceded by his initialis JH on the blade. Nor is the knife fitted with the safety ring invented by his son Marcell in 1955.
